18 May Are you living in your body?
As I reflect on the activities of any given day, I question whether I am ever fully “in my body” and what “it” is feeling.
Whether I am walking the dog, shopping at the grocery store or even sitting on my meditation cushion, it seems my mind is almost always leading the way. Sometimes I am so preoccupied I am not even sure I am moving or sitting still! My thoughts choose themselves and either spin rapidly in my head or stick sluggishly somewhere unknown to me. Wherever they are, I don’t think they are in my body, are they?
It’s rather disconcerting to not know how my body and mind are relating to one another. I think it is important to know, or better yet feel, my relationship to myself! The question is HOW do you do it? Well, it is easy!
Join me in my daily exploration called RESET.
When you wake up tomorrow, before you get out of bed or any other time of day you want, check out your breath.
Is it fast or slow? Is it deep or shallow?
Does it move through your whole body or stop somewhere along the way?
Does it have a texture, a temperature?
Maybe an image comes to mind while you are exploring.
Maybe the breath gets stuck or jumps from one place to another.
Whatever it is doing, just notice it and don’t try to change anything about it.
Don’t judge what is going on or the way you are doing it, just notice it again and leave it alone. And again and then leave it alone again.
See if you can do that a few times during the day. If you can, extend the amount of time you do it.
Let me know how it goes.
You might just notice what your body is feeling.
